February 15, 2010 - Tampa, Fl. - Champions! Pinecrest Premier U15 Girls team went 6-0 at the Score at the Shore Tournament in Tampa over President’s Day weekend, walking away with the championship in a strong field that included the top two ranked teams in Florida.
Pinecrest, currently ranked fourth in the state, cruised through the preliminary rounds with victories of 3-1, 3-2 and 5-0. They met a solid Clearwater team in the quarterfinals, and defeated them soundly 3-0. In the semifinals, Pinecrest was up against HCU, who had previously defeated the two time defending state champions in the quarterfinals. Pinecrest saw themselves fall behind 1-0 and again 2-1 during the match, but battled back to secure a 3-2 victory on a last minute goal. That victory propelled Pinecrest to the finals to face Brandon FC Flames, the top ranked team in the state. Brandon quickly showed why they are the top ranked team in the state, controlling much of the action in the first half, but Pinecrest held strong and the teams were scoreless at halftime. The second half continued scoreless until Pinecrest scored a goal with 6 minutes left in the match. Brandon responded quickly though, scoring within a couple of minutes to tie the match, sending the match into penalty kicks. Brandon missed two of their first four attempts, while the Pinecrest kickers were perfect on their first four tries, giving them the victory and the championship. Special thanks to Piney for providing inspiration to the team!
