October 11, 2009 - Tampa, Fl. The Pinecrest Premier U10B Blue team traveled to the HCU Adidas Columbus Day Classic tournament with one goal in mind. Win! In what could best be described as a perfect weekend for a perfect team, the Panthers wanted to make a statement and that is exactly what they did. The U10B Blue team played incredibly well over the weekend as they were crowned champions of the U10 Red Division.
Saturday morning, October 10, the weekend started off well, as the boys faced First Coast Academy White, posting a convincing 9-1 victory. Feeling confident, the second game would be no different as the Palm Harbor Nighthawks would prove to be no match against the skillful determination and teamwork of Pinecrest Premier, which led to a resounding 9-2 win. The team was in a groove and ready for anything that came their way.
On Sunday, October 11, the Pinecrest Premier SC U10 Boys would face West Pasco Thunder, a team trying to impede their way to the finals. Although, the game started a little late, it would not distract the boys. They won convincingly by a score of 7-2 and finished their group in first place, while booking their place in the finals.
In less than three hours, Pinecrest would be playing for a championship against a Brandon FC team which had also finished undefeated in the group and looking for the tournament win. What Brandon FC did not realize was they were facing a focused team, ready to bring home their first tournament win of the season. Pinecrest Premier Blue would score its first goal in its first possession within 30 seconds! They showed incredible skill and teamwork which resulted in a 6-0 half-time lead. In the second half, they began to show why they are one of the top teams in the state, as they put on a clinic in possession soccer, controlling much of the pace in the game.
The boys played with immense passion and heart while denying their opponent any chance to recover in the second half. In the end, Pinecrest Premier SC Blue would claim their first championship by defeating a worthy opponent in Brandon FC by a resounding score of 7-0. Congratulations to Coach Nick Megaloudis, Coach Richard Shellow and the Pinecrest Premier SC U10 Boys Blue Team on a great weekend!
